In 1995, Direct Appliance first opened its doors as a Direct Maytag Home Appliance Center on McHenry Avenue in Modesto. The store was a huge success under the leadership of Jack and Cyl Ugar, who quickly expanded the store to include almost all major brands and service on all brands as well. When Jack and Cyl both passed away within 10 months of each other, Cyl in December 2000 and Jack in October 2001, the store was briefly closed while the Ugar family and Direct Appliance employees tried to decide what to do. Two Direct Appliance employees who started out with Jack and Cyl at the former P&G Appliances on McHenry in the early 1980s offered to step up and take on the business themselves. Ron Winter and Bud Heller reopened Direct Appliance, Inc. in January 2002 with long-time employees Mike Morris and Judy Tarter. Over the past years the store has expanded both its store space and inventory line. Changes include a substantial shift toward high-end appliances like Viking, SubZero, Wolf, VentAHood, GE Monogram and Miele. The showroom now features the largest high-end working showroom in the area where we host cooking demonstrations every weekend, the “Cooking at Direct Appliance” TV show once a month, and ongoing special events. As was in the beginning years, Direct Appliance is proud to say that all of our appliance salespeople have extensive years in the business, and our service technicians are second to none. We know appliances and we are honored to serve you. Not every kitchen needs our appliances, but a lucky few deserve them. |
